In editing the article about Free Canadian Income Tax Software in 2019, I didn't find much good material about how much Canadians pay to file their taxes, and how we do it (with software, paying others, and so on). So I've created a survey that can hopefully help gather some useful information. As an incentive for people to fill it out, I'll draw 2 random winners for a $50 cash prize via Interac e-Transfer.

... so Peter, will the survey closed on a specific date ? Or when the number of participants reached a big enough sample ?

Thanks for organizing all this.

I'm thinking of running it for 2 weeks. But we'll see how the first week goes and then adjust the plan as necessary!

It's impossible for me to complete the survey because I cannot answer question 3 and the survey keeps wanting a positive answer ??

" 3. If you pay someone to do your personal income taxes, how much do you pay them? "

I do my own taxes so I don't pay anyone. Entering zero didn't seem to be an appropriate response in order to complete the survey.sf-confused

There's a flaw in question #3. It works if you enter zero.

Sorry for the confusion. You can enter anything into #3: "n/a", "$0", "zero"

2 weeks seems reasonable, 3 might be necessary if low number of submissions. Definitely no more than 4 weeks, though, I think. sf-cool

Cheers,
Doug

Interesting. Thanks Peter.

Apropos, got our returns from our CA today. I just finished double checking his figures using the calculator at taxtips.ca

After having done our own taxes for 25 years, it's hard to break old habits, lol.
